Chiropractic Care in Pregnancy

Chiropractic care in pregnancy is vital to the normal physiological function of both the mother and baby in pregnancy and birth.

For the mother
  • Prepare the pelvis for an easier pregnancy and birth by creating a state of balance in pelvic bony structures, muscles and ligaments.
  • Removes tension on the ligaments that support the uterus thus reducing the torsion(intrauterine constraint) to the woman's uterus.
  • Allows for safer easier birth for the mother decreasing the potential for intervention

For the infant

  • Allows the baby the room to develop without restrictions to its forming cranium, spine and other skeletal structures.
  • Removes interferences to the mother's nerve system allowing for better baby development.
  • Offers the baby the room to move into the best possible position for birth.
  • With proper fetal positioning, there is a significant decrease in dystocia and the resulting birth trauma caused by intervention.

  2. Dear Anonymous,
Congratulations on your pregnancy!I understand while being pregnant there are many symptoms that can occur and having more can be very frustrating.
However,if this is your first visit to the Chiropractor the dull ache can be common.
I would suggest you contact or discuss this issue with your Chiropactor. Most chiropractors are well versed in a variety of techniques, some more gentle than others. Being up front and honest with the doctor will help you and allow the doctor to modify his technique if need be. Hope this helps.

  3. I am really impressed with your Blog. Chiropractic is a health care approach and profession that emphasizes diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine.

  4. Thanks for your input Samual. The beauty of chiropractic is it's non-surgical, non-pharmaceutical approach. These two things make it a perfect fit for children. We appreciate your input.

  5. No only are these visible physical changes impacting the mother's life, but hormonal and neurological changes are also causing profound physical effects. The increased flow of estrogen causes the ligaments to soften and joints to become more flexible. This makes the entire skeletal structure less supportive, causing even more muscle and joint pain.
